Old year - new year

This time of year, thoughts and conversations naturally move to the year that was. Around our Christmas table this year, we all shared our high and low points of the year, and just that very simple process scrambled my synapses - how did all that happen in just one year? How on earth am I meant to make sense of it all?
No matter what I'm doing or where I am, I use this liminal time of year between the old year and the new year to process the year that was, and to prepare myself for the year that is coming in. I do this using a set of guided journal questions which I've been refining over several years. To give this process the proper attention it deserves, I drop into a retreat headspace, taking the time and space to answer the questions with my full attention.
As a forward thinking momentum player, my tendency is to rush into the next thing, leaving the past to itself. What's done is done after all, right? What ifs make my skin crawl and I'm not wired for regret. These bullet train personality traits makes this process even more crucial - because as it turns out, processing your life is critical for understanding what on earth has just happened, observing patterns so you don't do the same stupid things over and over again, acknowledging what worked and what didn't, and just generally being situated and grounded in your own life.
I'm not into manifestation or positive affirmations, and in my experience, New Year's resolutions are mostly doomed to fail. However, looking towards the coming year, grounded in the knowledge of what you'd like to see more of, what you definitely won't be tolerating any longer, how you would like to feel, and what you need to finish to have respect for yourself, is a much more grounded way to approach the new year.
Over the next week or so I will be immersed in this process - and if that sounds like something you would like to do as well, join me. I have created 4 old year-new year self-led retreat guides with my end of year guided journal questions to help you come home to yourself, inhabit your own life more deeply, and set yourself up for a life that is the most authentic representation of you 🙏
Download your retreat kits here - and if you have any questions, email me or post in the comments.
Go well,
Sara

I loved these questions so much, I found they allowed a great reflection of the year past and supported direction and focus for the coming year! A ritual to now close off and bring in each year moving forward. What a great process to move through over my 24 hour retreat!
I am SO glad you found the process to be of value - taking the time to slow down, process the year that was and prepare for the incoming year is the ultimate in self care - and in my experience the dividends play out across the year. Thank you for joining me this year ❤️
